Brand photography at Ravenscraig Park, Kirkcaldy
Yarrow runs two businesses, PinkWellStudio and GriefMagic, and they share one brand. It is warm, kind and gentle, and that is Yarrow’s personality and her photos needed to look like that. No high contrast, no bright colours.
She chose Ravenscraig Park for her Signature brand shoot, because it is her favourite park. Picking a place you already love does a lot of the work. You stop performing and start simply being there.
Easing in
Yarrow told me she was a little unsure about being photographed. That is very common, and it shapes how I work. We started slowly, with no instructions to look natural, and I gave her things to do with her hands: a branch to hold, a leaf to look at, a moment to herself under the trees. It gave Yarrow something to focus on other than the camera.
The details that belong to her
Portraits are only half of what a brand needs. Hands, objects and texture give her websites and newsletters something to draw on that feels like her world, without staging anything.
Down by the water
Later we moved to the shore. The light softened and so did the pace. One frame uses a slower shutter, so she moves through the light slowly and gently, like she does in real life.
If you are a little unsure about being photographed too, that is a good place to start from. The shoot goes at your pace.
