Astrocartographer and Women’s Mentor
Years ago, I was Melanie's client when she worked as a nutritional therapist. We stayed connected over the years, and at some point she told her husband, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to travel to Scotland and be photographed by Karola?”
Years later, they made it happen.
They were travelling to Scotland for a family event, with a personal connection to the country through her husband’s Scottish roots, and decided to build a branding photoshoot into their trip.
A few words from Melanie
“I had the great pleasure of visiting Scotland and booking a photoshoot alongside of my husband for both of our businesses. The experience with Karola was delightful, invigorating, sensuous and easeful. Karola clearly enjoys her work and it was such a joy to be photographed by her in beautiful nature places. And the photos are stunning!”
Starting Point
Melanie already knew my work from our connection many years earlier. When the opportunity finally came to visit Scotland, we turned the idea she had once talked about into reality.
We created individual branding photographs for both Melanie and her husband, as well as photographs of them together.
Challenge
This was about creating much more than a collection of professional portraits.
We wanted to make the most of their time in Scotland and create photographs that felt connected to the landscape, their relationship with each other and the experience of travelling somewhere meaningful.
The images needed to feel natural and personal, while giving Melanie a strong collection of photographs for her business.
Shooting Concept
We photographed across two very different moments of the day, meeting for sunset one evening and then getting up very early the following morning for sunrise.
Our sunrise start was at 4am.
It was completely worth it. The early morning light created a very different atmosphere from the evening session, giving us soft, quiet and atmospheric photographs alongside the warmer feeling of sunset.
We explored beautiful natural locations along the Scottish coastline, allowing the landscape and changing light to become part of the visual story.
We photographed Melanie individually for her business, as well as her husband for his. Then we created space for them to simply be together, walking along the coastline, sharing coffee and laughing between locations.
Rather than treating the landscape as simply a backdrop, we allowed Melanie to become part of it. The result was imagery that feels connected to Scotland and to the experience they were having here.
Outcome
A deeply personal collection of branding photographs for Melanie, capturing her personality, her business and the feeling of finally bringing that long held idea to life.
The photographs later became part of a completely new website for Melanie, giving her a fresh visual library to support this next chapter of her online presence.
